Q. Do you offer tastings? How many people can come with me?
A. Yes, we offer a complimentary tasting and consultation for you and a guest for all wedding cakes and specialty cakes that are priced at 350 and up. We do allow you to bring up to 3 additional guests to the consultation in addition to yourself.
However, we do ask that no more than 4 people total attend the consultation if possible due to the size of our kitchen and studio space.
Q. Is there a charge for the consultation & tasting? How long should we plan to be there?
A. We do not charge a fee for the initial tasting, however, if more than one tasting is requested, there will be a charge of 50.00 per tasting after the initial complimentary tasting.
An hour is set aside for each client, which has proven to provide the time to both taste our cakes and come up with a general design idea. Often, appointments are scheduled before and after yours so please plan to be on time so we have a full hour.
Please keep in mind that we bake everything from scratch several times per week and that the cake samples are prepared specifically for your appointment.
We do ask for the courtesy of at least a 48 hour notice if your appointment needs to be rescheduled.
Cancellations without the appropriate notice will be subject to a $50.00 fee in order to rebook the appointment.
Q. What do I need to bring to our appointment?
A. In terms of weddings, we have fond that it is helpful if you have already decided upon a venue, the number of guests and have an idea of the overall theme and color combinations that will be used at your ceremony and reception prior to our meeting.
Please bring anything that has inspired you. Examples can be the invitation, a piece of lace, scrapbook paper. You name it..you bring it and we can most likely replicate it in sugar.
Q. What Can I Expect To Pay For A Wedding Cake? Do you have a price list?
A. We do not have a general price list because each cake is a custom creation. Most wedding and tiered cakes are priced per person; 3D cakes are priced per project. All of our sugarpaste flowers are priced separately.
Pricing starts at $5 per serving for a plain buttercream cake and can increase up to 15.00 per person based upon design and intricate details. Generally, our pricing tends to average from $6-8 per serving.
Ultimately the final price is based on the complexity of design and the number of people being served. Sheet cakes are only available to supplement larger parties and are priced at $4.00 per serving. We only offer sheet cakes as back-up cakes for very large events where a large amount of cake is needed.
We ask that you have a budget in mind for what you would like to spend on your cake before you come to the consultation. This will give us a better sense of what we can design for you.
Q. Do you ship your cakes?
A. Not at this time.
Q. What is your delivery area? What do you charge for delivery?
A. We deliver all over Colorado. Please inquire about the fee for delivery to your specific area.
Q. Do I have to make a deposit to reserve my wedding date? If so, how much is it and can I get a refund, if necessary?
A. Yes, we charge a 50% deposit to reserve your wedding date on our calendar and the other half is due 14 calendar days prior to your wedding date. We ask that you be completely sure that you would like to work with us as ALL Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE and Date Specific.
Q. I am not ready to make design decisions yet but I want to reserve our date so you dont get booked up, is there a way to do that?
A. Yes. You may reserve your date with a $250.00 deposit. Final arrangements just need to be made at least 4 weeks prior to your event. Again, we ask that you be absolutely sure that you would like to work with us as ALL Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE.
Q. How far in advance should I book a cake?
A. We are often booked up many weeks ahead of time so the sooner the better to reserve your place on our calendar. We do require a bare minimum of 1 week for any order, but for weddings we suggest a minimum of six months to one year just to make sure we have the availability. Please call or email to find out our availability for your particular date. We absolutely try to accommodate last minute requests if our schedule allows us.
Q. Do you make single cakes, cupcakes and any decorated cookies?
A. Yes. We do custom designed cupcakes and stands. They starting at $3.00 per person and the stands are separately priced. Individual cakes start at $30.00 each for one 6 tier. Cookies start at $5.00 which includes packaging for favors. Please contact us for additional information.
Q. If I want fresh flowers on my cake how can that be arranged?
A. While we highly recommend decorating your cake with our handmade/painted sugarpaste flowers as we believe they look better, hold up better and give an edge to your cake that fresh flowers do not, we will gladly coordinate with your florist when they can place the fresh flowers on the cake for you.
Q. Do you make sugar free, vegan or gluten free cakes? Do you use organic ingredients?
A. We currently do not make sugar free cakes. However, we do create vegan cakes (with limitations-please inquire) and gluten free cakes. We do require a tasting fee of $50.00 for vegan and gluten free cakes due to extra cost of the supplies. Vegan and gluten free cakes start at 7.00 per person.
We guarantee all of our ingredients are 100% natural and of the highest quality, which is but one of the reasons our pricing tends to be just a bit higher than some other local vendors.
For example, we ONLY use unbleached cake flour, unbleached natural cane sugar, real butter and real extracts as we truly do care about ethics along with the health of our clients. We use locally sourced organic ingredients whenever possible and we really try to support local farmers as much as we can.
We also know that fresh natural ingredients truly do make a difference in our cakes. We are committed to using only the best ingredients around Denver and Boulder & take great pride in creating the best cakes in terms of both taste and design. We know youll quite literally TASTE the difference of our cakes.
VARIOUS NOTES ABOUT OUR CAKES-
NOTE ON 100% ORGANIC: We can make your entire cake 100% organic, however, organic cakes with organic buttercream and organic rolled fondant start at 10.00 per person. Also, since we do have to use some artificial colorings for the airbrush at this time (there isnt 100% natural airbrush colorings available at this time), we cannot guarantee every design is feasible if the entire cake (including the outside coloring) is ordered organic.
What we can guarantee is that everything up to the outside airbrush is 100% organic if you decide to order an organic cake. At the time the cake is served, you can decide whether or not you would like to wipe off the coloring (with vodka or lemon extract) or peel off the fondant that has the coloring on it.
NOTE ON OUR FONDANT: Our premium rolled fondant is 100% natural and made from scratch with NO artificial flavors, colors, trans fats or high fructose corn syrup. We make our fondants from 100% premium real white chocolate, milk chocolate or dark chocolate (depending on the color), sugar, vanilla extract, real butter, corn syrup (Not HFCS) and heavy cream. We think youll be surprised at how good our fondant tastes! Also, we do make all natural vegan fondant with Solaray Organic Vegetable Shortening as well (Please Inquire for More Info on Our Vegan Products).
NOTE ON OUR CAKE INGREDIENTS-We guarantee that there are NO artificial flavors or colors used in ANY of our cakes frostings or fillings. Every cake we create is 100% from scratch. The ONLY artificial items we ever use are our airbrush colors since there are no completely natural replacements available at this time.
However, you can always go for a cake without the airbrush coloring if your design idea fits a cake with no color besides white (Buttercream frosting or white chocolate fondant) or brown (dark chocolate frosting or fondant) and the cake would be 100% natural and/or 100% organic depending on what you ordered.
Jennifer Kathleen Campbell has been baking since she was a child and designing cakes since 2005. An artist at heart, Jennifer immediately fell in love with cake design and sugar art shortly after her own wedding in 2005.
She has taken sugar art coursework from some of the most prestigious pastry chefs and cake designers in the business and continues to take coursework as often as possible to learn new innovative skills.
Jennifer Sennhenn-Campbell is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma and later lived in Southern Georgia for almost 5 years with her husband and family. She started making cakes for friends and family in 2005 as a hobby and then became a business almost overnight because of all the referrals she was getting.
She and her family moved to Denver, Colorado in 2009. We are thrilled to have opened Designer Cakes in Westminster, CO in 2009.
Jennifer continues to travel when she can to learn innovative techniques from the best cake artists and pastry professionals in the business and in turn strives to offer you the most unique and artisitc cakes in the Denver and Boulder areas.

Southern Style Red Velvet Cake
A southern classic; this decadent cake has a buttermilk base with a dab of cocoa and our signature cream cheese frosting. Many of our clients tell us our Red Velvet is the best they've ever had.
Vanilla Bean Butter Cake
This is one of our tried and true classics. Vanilla Bean and Pure Vanilla Extract, Butter, Eggs and Sour Cream. This is often served with the classic swiss meringue buttercream and fresh berry filling.
Dark Chocolate Fudge
Dark chocolate, butter, sour cream and expresso liquer . It is best served filled with our handmade raspberry filling and frosted with either our dark chocolate or milk chocolate frosting.
Tiramisu Cake with Mocha Frosting
Kahluah Liquer, butter, sour cream, cocoa, dark chocolate and cinnamon. We recommend the mocha frosting, which is made from butter, dark chocolate, cocoa, expresso and pure vanilla extract.
Lemon Poppy Seed
Lemon poppy pound with your choice of fillings, and frostings. This is great with our fresh zesty lemon curd and swiss meringue buttercream.
Vanilla and Chocolate Marble
Our vanilla butter cake and our dark chocolate fudge swirled to create a happy medium between vanilla and chocolate. This cake can be coupled with a number of frostings and fillings.
Classic Buttermilk Cake
Light and fluffy...This cake is super moist and good with just about and filling and flavor combination. We recommend the strawberry cream cheese filling.
The Bellini
Pink Champagne cake drizzled with peach schnapps syrup, layerd with peach filling, then covered with smooth vanilla buttercream and our premium white chocolate fondant.
Coconut Cake with Lime Buttercream
Fresh coconut and coconut milk, butter, coconut liquer, fresh squeezed lime juice and lime zest. with the option of fresh toasted coconut shavings.
